Leaving a legacy
Many people remember charities in their wills. This can be a for a number of reasons: by way of a thank you for support they or their family have received from the charity; as a way of making sure that the charity’s good work can continue in the future; as a way to make a difference.
Most charities would not survive without legacies.
St Mary’s Cathedral has received legacies over the years and in every case the generosity of these has made a significant difference to the Parish.
In 2015, a large legacy was left to the Cathedral which allowed us to make significant and very overdue fabric repairs to the Cathedral buildings. As part of this, the sacristies underwent important damp-proofing and plasterwork, the walls were redecorated, floors were resurfaced and valuable joinery work carried out to provide much needed storage space. A new sound system with hearing loop connectivity was installed for the benefit of parishioners. Much needed repairs and redecorating work was carried out in Cathedral House. These works would not have been possible without the generosity of the former parishioner.
If you would like to make a difference, please consider a legacy to the Cathedral when planning for the future. Our parish priests would be happy to discuss this with you, or you can contact our finance officer, Caroline Reid on 0131 523 0101.
