Community and Outreach
Teas and Coffees
Every Sunday after Mass, there are teas, coffees and cakes available in the parish rooms. The children can play safely in the extensive parish grounds, while parishioners catch up on the latest news over a hot drink. There are occasional bake sales and fair trade gifts available too. On Fridays, those who attend the 9.30am Mass can attend a drop-in café, with donations going to support a local charity.
Parish Barbecue
Every September, the parish hosts an annual fundraising barbecue. Burgers and sausages are available, in addition to a bric-a-brac stall, second hand books and a chance to get to know each other a little better. For the children, there is a bouncy castle, face-painting and a tuck shop. Look out for details in the newsletter.
Parish Project
Each year, the parish invites nominations and votes on a charity to support with financial resources and prayers. Previous recipients have included parish communities in Russia and in Africa. Our current parish project supports a seminary in India run by the Rosminian order, helping to provide future missionary priests who will serve throughout the world. To donate to the parish project, or to nominate future projects for consideration, contact the Cathedral finance department, marking any donations for the Ravelston Parish Project.
World Day of Prayer
Ravelston parishioners have a long tradition of supporting the World Day of Prayer, in which we gather with our Christian brothers and sisters from the other Edinburgh churches to get to know one another and pray for a greater unity among the followers of Christ. Details are advertised in the newsletter.
